So I finally made the move to Mac OS X. The transition has been pretty smooth with the exception of printing shipping labels with the Zebra LP 2844. I was able to install the printer without a problem, however the barcode always prints fuzzy. I have tried printing direct from the browser, using Preview, and also Adobe Reader X. It must be a font problem, but after googling it there seems to be no solutions. I’m installing Parallels to run Quickbooks and Office, so I guess that would be a backup plan. Do the newer Zebra printers have better OS X support?

It is a driver issue - namely a Mac driver does not exist. You can get it to work by using a different Zebra printer model driver.

I’ve fiddled with everything to try and alleviate the problem, trust me - resolution, printing speed, etc. It works fine for programs designed specifically for it like Endicia Mac. Side technical note: any idea how much it would cost to get a programmer to make the correct driver for a Mac?

I’d be willing to pay if the price is right. I hate using paper labels for Fedex. Edited to add: I FOUND A SOLUTION! Somebody else is now selling drivers.

Mac

Got the link from the Zebra website. Currently $116 - at least while the 50% off sale is on. FINALLY somebody took the initiative. Did you write that correctly? $116 for a +driver+ for a Mac? That is absurd!

I don’t understand people who don’t use industry standard hardware for their business. I admit that I have a few Macs that will soon be used for business but they are set up to run Windows natively. As an example, my sister used to work in the film industry. She used a Mac because that was what was a (kind of) industry standard although lots of their software was Windows based. She is now in accounting and realized immediately that the industry standard is Windows so she dropped the Mac and replaced it with a Windows machine. Update: so far I am unimpressed with the driver. Although it is printing +somewhat+ clearer than before with the old built-in Zebra EPL2 driver that is responsible for the fuzziness, it is far from the perfectly crisp labels that Endicia spits out.

4X6 is not a default size (what?!?). Although it does have many other sizes that I could see being useful and a custom size that you can save as a preset. I am still in the midst of tech support, and I can see where it’s heading by the questions they’re asking. But to their defense, they are trying to work with me and not want me to send samples of what I’m trying to print so they can try and pinpoint the issue. Newest problem: all labels now stop printing 0.25 inches short of the perforations, even if I switch back to my old driver.

To advance the label the last 0.25 inches I now need to hit the feed/advance button on top of the printer. But the print speed, which slowed down from what I had it set to, is also reset so I think once I figure this out t will be smooth sailing.
