I’ve had a “My Passport” for over a year and use it to perform category backups periodically. When I tried it recently, the message in the top left of the “Backup” tap is “148.07 GB of 148.07 GB copied.” When I check the backup frequency, it indicates that a backup has been done recently. However, when I check the files in My Passport, all the files I’ve added since the last backup (2 months ago) have not been backed up. It’s like My Passport isn’t reviewing my computer’s files to see that there are new files that need to be backed up. (I seem to recall that when My Passport worked properly, the “Backup Source Content Guage” would show files to be backed up in yellow.

Now nothing is in yellow.) • I successfully did the 'My Passport software update for Windows users as found at • I’m running WD version 2.2.1, WD Quick View 3.2.0.15 and WD Drive Service 2.0.0.19 • There are 250 GB free on My Passport. • I’m using Windows Vista. What’s going on? How do I get My Passport to do a category backup of my computer? I’d appreciate any suggestions.

I am having similar problems. From the Community board, t appears that these kinds of problems, in one form or another, have been going on for years.

Safely eject a drive by right-clicn and select Eject, or simply drag the Mounted External Disk icon to Trash. Unplug the device from the USB port. A wind storm knocked out power for about 24 hours immediately after I captured the product images for this drive, immediately making the benefit of the self-powered feature very real. Fortunately the WD My Passport Wireless SSD arrived with a charged battery and my first use of it was to charge my cell phone.

The last message in this thread was four weeks ago, indicating that at that time there was still no permanent solution. I just installed My Passport Ultimate this week and noticed that not everything I had marked was backed up. I can manually drag a file or folder from the desktop onto the Ultmate, but the only efficient way to backup files and the directory structure is to go through WD SmartWare app. Yet it is not backing up everything marked, and it gives no indication that a file or folder failed to back up.

How can a problem this fundamental go unsolved? Does anyone know the casue, and even better, a permanenet solution???

I haven't bothered upgrading it, since it ran fine on my aluminum MacBook running today's, and I haven't needed more than a few of even this older version's features. Intuit has had an on-again/off-again relationship with Mac users, with long periods where it hasn't bothered to release Mac versions of its programs, Quicken, QuickBooks, TurboTax, and more. It has a current Mac version of Quicken, Quicken Essentials 2010, but that has been criticized for being less powerful than its current Windows version. In fact, Intuit recently Mac users: 'This option [using Quicken Essentials] is ideal if you do not track investment transactions and history, use online bill pay or rely on specific reports that might not be present in Quicken Essentials for Mac.' Intuit quicken for mac.

I am yet another person who has this exact problem. My passport came with version 1.6. Since upgrading to version 2.3 my backup has not worked - been a few months now. Previously I reinstalled the original SW and all was good until Windows Update automatically updated the SW again.

I no longer have the disc that came with the device so I cant “downgrade” again Today I upgraded the SW to latest V2.4039 - and guess what it still doesnt work!! WD are simply not aknowledging the problem even exists, even though there are 100s of complaints referring to this on the web. Sadly time to move away from WD me thinks If anyone can help?! Advertisement Now that every Apple laptop ships with a solid state drive, many of us are learning to live with smaller storage capacities once more. At the same time, external hard drives are cheaper and roomier than ever – which means there’s often plenty of room for backups and file storage on the same drive. Everyone should As the developer here at MakeUseOf and as someone who earns their entire income from working online, it's fair to say my computer and data are quite important. They’re set up perfectly for productivity with., and ideally Laptops, desktops and tablets are ultimately trivial items that can be replaced and hold little value, but the same might not be true of the data they contain. Losing a project you’ve worked years on. If your Mac’s hard drive is small but your Time Machine hard drive is big, it might be worth using the drive for both backup and storage purposes.
